In another bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar together until light and fluffy.
Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing until well combined.
Gradually incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and scoop tablespoons of dough onto the sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set but the centers are still slightly soft.
Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
