Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon red food coloring
  • ½ cup white chocolate chips optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add the egg, vanilla extract, and red food coloring to the butter mixture, mixing until combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined. Fold in the optional white chocolate chips.
  • Scoop dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart, and bang the sheet on the counter to flatten slightly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are firm yet the center remains soft.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
